30 KM FROM US
Near the village of Rethondes, 6 km from Compiègne, it was there, in a wagon, that Marshal Foch dictated to the defeated Germans the text of the armistice of November 11, 1918. In June 1940, Hitler parodied this ceremony on the same premises. . The historic wagon, destroyed in 1944, was rebuilt identically and turned into a museum. It houses stereoscopic views of the 14-18 war and authentic memories of the signing of the Armistice.
Why we recommend it:
The Clearing of the Armistice in the Oise in the forest of Compiègne, the museum and the wagon. Clearing where Marshal Foch wanted the Armistice of the First World War to be signed (in the wagon visible in the museum just next door).
The village is located on the banks of the Somme, between Amiens and Péronne, on either side of the Somme canal.
Dominated by its imposing cathedral, Amiens has an architectural heritage of astonishing diversity. Qualified by Jules Verne as the “Ideal City”, this avant-garde city from the 19th century promises an intense and lively cultural life.
